Oaktrack will join hundreds of organisations and communities hosting events across the country as part of the British Food Fortnight celebrations taking place between 17th September to 2nd October 2022.
The first British Food Fortnight was held in 2001 when the foot and mouth crisis had bought farming to its knees. Alexia Robinson, who came up with the idea, wanted to do something to help revive rural communities and to give farmers a reason to continue to farm and look to the future with optimism.
The aim then, as it is now, is to use the fun of a national celebration to encourage people to actively seek out British food when they are shopping and eating out, with the hope that people continue to make a conscious effort to buy British year-round.
Inspired by Harvest Festival, the traditional time when communities gather to celebrate the produce of the land, this annual festival is now in its 21st year.
As part of the celebrations, Oaktrack will be holding two tasting sessions where visitors can come and sample the latest batches of seasonal preserves, jellies and chutneys. These will be held on Saturday 17th and Thursday 22nd September between 10am – 12 noon. Furthermore, on 17th September the pop-up café will be open and visitors can enjoy a host of specially baked cakes packed with seasonal ingredients.
Oaktrack owner and founder, Tina Wells said:
“We are delighted to be taking part in this year’s British Food Fortnight celebrations. This national event enables smallholders and farmers like us to showcase the range of produce available.
We hope it will also encourage to people to make a conscious effort to continue to support British food producers year-round.” She continues.
Both events are free to attend, and pre-booking is not required – simply come along!
